Special ceremony remembers passed members of centre

EVERYBODY who played a part in establishing Ballyfermot Family Resource Centre as a vital outlet in the community over the last 40 years, was remembered at a special ceremony on Monday.

The centre held a Remembrance Day and unveiling of a beautiful bench and plaque to remember all the people who have worked and volunteered in the Ballyfermot Family Resource Centre since it opened in 1982.

The event on Monday saw a good turnout and fine weather, with everyone welcome, especially the family and friends of those who worked or volunteered in the centre.

Mary Farrell, board member at Ballyfermot Family Resource Centre, said: “This event was organised by the Ballyfermot Family Resource Centre to commemorate all the volunteers, workers and participants who have passed since the centre first opened in 1982.

“A large number of family and friends of the deceased attended the event. Joe Fitzgerald, Chairman BFRC, explained that the centre is one of the largest employers in Ballyfermot. This includes the staff of Woodlands creche, the CE participants, the staff of the Cup and Spoon Café, and the core staff.”

At the event, Ms Farrell referred to the seanfhocail on the plaque ‘ní neart go chuir le chéile’, explaining that it captures the amazing energy and creativity that emerged when people worked together in the centre.

Sr Bonnie blessed the plaque.
