Still arm-in-arm after 60 blissful years of marriage

AFTER six decades together, Patrick and Ann Weir once again walked arm-in-arm down the aisle of St Mary’s Church in Saggart – this time to renew their vows and celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
Originally from Cavan, Patrick met Saggart girl Ann at a céilí in the village, with the couple saying “I do” on August 16, 1959.

Known as Paddy and Rosie, the young couple lived in Tallaght Hill before moving to St Maelruain’s Park in 1966 – and were one of the first families to set up home in the newly built estate.
The couple had six children – one boy, Fred, and five girls, Noeleen, Mary, Patricia and Georgina, and the late Ann.
Speaking with The Echo, the youngest daughter Georgina said: “Mam and dad gave us everything. They went through everything over the years and raised us on a shoestring, but stayed together.
“They worked as a team, they have always been united and very close.”
She added: “They’re a great example of what being married is all about and are so involved with their children and their grandkids.”
On their wedding day 60 years ago
Last Friday, August 16, Patrick (81) and Ann (79) returned to St Mary’s Church in Saggart with their family to renew their vows and celebrate the life they’ve built together over 60 years.
“It was very emotional but really lovely,” Georgina said.
After the ceremony in St Mary’s, Patrick and Ann, who have seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, headed to the Poitín Stil with their loved ones for a celebratory meal.
The family thanked St Mary’s Church in Saggart for their support in organising the ceremony, especially Father Gilligan.
