Storm Betty ruled out as damaged trees were vandalised before adverse weather
THE strange sight of damaged trees has been a feature of New Nangor Road in Clondalkin for a while.
A number of lime trees placed along the footpath of the main road are currently damaged – some of them appear to have been snapped in half, while others look like they have been pushed towards the ground.
Storm Betty was not the culprit, according to Cllr Eoin Ó Broin (SocDems), who believes the trees have been vandalised before and that it has happened frequently before.
“That footpath isn’t really used that much, there is nothing on that side. The Grand Canal Greenway on the other side is nicer to walk on,” said Cllr Ó Broin.
“It was an old cycle lane. Maybe if it was touched up a bit, more people would use it and it [damage] might not occur. They will have to be fixed again. The council usually appoint a contractor to do it.”
