
Tallaght MA competitors reach WKC World Championship podium
TALLAGHT Martial Arts made a big impact at the WKC World Championship held last week in Citywest Hotel where more than 1300 competitors, representing 25 countries, lined out.
Leá Farrell was on top of her game in the final of the Junior Girls -50kg where she easily outpointed her Canadian challenger to win the world title.

Dylan McClelland (-50kg Points Fighting) saw off fighters from Canada and Ireland to twin his title, while Nathan Clarke (Under 10 Years -30kg Points Fighting) followed suit beating opponents from Canada, England and Puerto Rico.
Shauna Fitzpatrick (13-15 Years -45kg Points Fighting) met Zara Jones in the decider in which the latter took control at the end of the first round and increased her lead in the second to win her first world title.
Jones was also competing in light contact where she beat Scottish and Irish opposition en route to a second world title.
Dean Barry (-85kg Points Fighting) took gold after successfully negotiating challenges from English, Puerto Rican and American opposition.
This set up Barry to fight in the night time show where all the weight divisions battled it out in the grand champion event which the Tallaght man won.
He then combined with Stephen Jones, Sean Ryan, Jay Daniels and Conor McGlinchey to win the men’s team event.
Narrowly lost out
Katie Ann Butler Quinn, fighting in the +50kg Points Fighting 13-14 years section, beat Canadian and English opposition to progress to the semi finals were she narrowly lost out.
Fergus Daly, fighting in the Veterans -85kg division, was edged out in the semi finals as was Pat Warren (Veterans +85kg) whose last four match-up went to extra time before he was beaten.
Stephen Jones fighting -85kg Points Fighting and Veteran -85kg lost out in the semi finals of both, while Louis McGlinchey, lining out in the traditional kata 11-12 years, just missed out on a podium place.
Conor McGlinchey (Men’s Points fighting -80kg) came through challenges from English and USA opposition only to lose out narrowly in the decider before Naoise Colvin (13-15 Years Points Fighting) also made it as far as the final where defeated after extra time.
David Harris (-75kg Points Fighting) lost out in the quarters while Naoise McManus (-60kg 13-14 Years) won bronze before continuing on to take gold in light contact.
McManus, Jones and Colvin also fought in the team event in which they beat England in the quarter finals before coming undone against USA in the semi finals.
Eadaoin Mc Crave (-65kg Points Fighting) won bronze, before going all the way in light contact by beating Canadian and English competitors while Aaron Keogh (11-12 Years Points Fighting -50kg) also turned in an encouraging performance.
