Thieves break into creche
By Maurice Garvey
THIEVES broke into a creche in Clondalkin, in an unsurprisingly futile attempt to steal cash and valuables.
The incident occurred three weeks ago at Bambi’s Pre-School at Greenpark Shopping Centre.
The creche was broken into at Greenpark Shopping Centre
Local sources say two males cut or prised open the shutters late at night at approximately 4am, and smashed the front door glass window on their way into the premises.
They thrashed the office and left empty handed, travelling together on a quad bike towards the Boot Road direction.
Staff discovered the mess in the morning, and had to close the business for one day, in order to clean up the premises and repair damages to the shutter and front door.
Bambi’s was established 35 year ago, making it one of the longest serving pre-school facilities in Clondalkin.
A Bambi’s staff member said they felt “awful” having to turn kids away that day.
“There was bits of glass all over the floor – it was an access and safety issue,” she said.
“They think you have money but it is all done through the Government now. We don’t have money here. Most of the services are paid through the Government. It was all for nothing.”
Clondallkin Councillor William Carey (SF) said the issue of break-ins was a worry for local businesses.
“There was another break in at the newsagent in Greenpark Shopping Centre recently, and it was the same type of operation, they cut their way in through the shutters with hand tools,” said Cllr Carey.
Anyone with information about the break-in, is asked to contact Clondalkin Garda Station at 666 7600.
