Tidy Towns group aims to make area better place to live

A SEED-bombing event at Tallafest marked the beginning of the county’s newest voluntary organisation that is working towards improving the local environment.
Aiming to keep Tallaght village and the surrounding area clean and tidy, Tallaght Tidy Towns (TTT) will also be specifically targeting the reduction of litter and plastics entering waterways.

Tidy Towns is a local, community-based voluntary organisation with groups all across Ireland, and Tallaght is the latest group to set up in South Dublin – with Clondalkin, Lucan and Palmerstown Meitheal Tidy Towns already up and running.
TTT launched last month during Tallafest after Sow Enchanted donated seed bombs to the organisation.
‘Seed-bombing’ is an act that introduces vegetation to land for Ireland’s natural pollinators such as bees and butterflies to feast on by throwing ‘bombs’ made up of different species of native wildflower seeds and herbs.
The natural clay ball was dispersed around TUD Dublin – Tallaght Campus, with founding member of the group and current Tallaght Person of the Year, Gar Tyrell, excited to get started.
He told The Echo: “The goals include to increase involvement of the community in making Tallaght an even better place to live, work and enjoy.
“We want to reduce littering, especially plastics entering our waterways, raise awareness of the climate and biodiversity crisis and play our part in solving these issues.
“We want to follow the Pollinator Plan guidelines – build bat boxes, plant trees and pollinator friendly flowers.
“We would welcome any school, community group, business or individuals who would like to join us in what will be a proactive and fun way of giving back to the community while getting outdoors and meeting like-minded people.”
