Two arrested and loaded firearm recovered after ERU search in Ballyfermot

Gardai have this evening foiled a potentially serious fued-related attack after they arrested two men and seized a loaded firearm on the Kylemore Road.

Officers from the Emergency Response Unit stopped a vehicle and searched it at approximately 8pm in Ballyfermot.

Gardai confirmed two men have been arrested and a firearm has been recovered.

It is believed the men have been taken to Crumlin Garda Station.

In a statement released tonight a Garda spokesperson said: “As a result of an intelligence led operation conducted by Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, a van was intercepted by the Emergency Response Unit on the Kylemore Road this evening at approximately 8pm.

“Two men (34 and 38 years) were arrested at the scene on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and a loaded firearm was also recovered.

“Both men were removed to Crumlin Garda Station and are currently detained under Section 50, Criminal Justice Act, 2007.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
