Halloween Zombie Run is part of club’s 10-year celebrations
THIS year marks the tenth anniversary of Cherry Orchard Running Club, and they are celebrating the anniversary with a series of events throughout the year.
The club is hosting a ‘Zombie Run’ over Halloween for the children in the area.
The Zombie Run will take place on Tuesday, October 31, at 11am, in California Hills Park – entrance via corner of Drumfinn/Rossmore Road.
Registration is at 10am in the park with a parent or guardian – with everyone invited to dress up, walk, jog or run and have fun”.
Registration can also be done online HERE.
First 300 children registered will receive a medal.
According to the club, they will have an amazing participation of numbers running once again in the Dublin City Marathon, on Sunday, October 29.
Kenneth O’Driscoll, community coach for the Cherry Orchard area, started the club in 2013 to help support mental health issues in the area.
The club started with just three members but over the years it has made a real positive impact for adults and young people in the area, and now counts over 300 members.
Last year, for the first time, the club had over 60 members take part in the Dublin City Marathon and there was also a cohort of club volunteers on the day, supporting all of the competitors along the route.
The club’s Christmas run this year is on December 2, along with the club’s Christmas party.
Members of the wider community are invited to join in with the current ‘Couch to 5k’ initiative.
Runners will be doing their first 5k run on November 18, so the celebrations keep coming and the club committee is busy organising the AGM too.
This week, Kenneth O’Driscoll presented Sean Meehan, with an honorary membership in recognition of his achievements as a sports person and fantastic runner.
“All his hard work and consistency paid off this year when he came third in the Kerry Way Ultra 2023, completing 200k in time. Well done to you Sean,” said the club.
“Along with that, Sean’s support crew won first prize for their Best Support Crew – what a fantastic achievement for everyone.
Wishing Sean and the crew continued success going forward.”
