Man caught without car insurance

A MAN caught driving without insurance or NCT was given the chance to see if he is suitable for community service.

Wasiu Amusa (30), with an address of Russel Green, Russell Square, Tallaght, appeared before Tallaght District Court charged with road traffic offences.

The court heard gardai stopped the accused in a silver BMW on Whitestown Way on January 19, 2023, and on the Jobstown Road on February 14, 2023.

Amusa had no insurance, NCT, and although a provisional driver and unaccompanied, there was no display of L plates.

The court heard this was the fourth and fifth time the accused was facing these charges in court, and that he received a suspended three-month prison sentence in May 2025.

Defence counsel told the court that Mr Amusa is a sales rep working for a waste management company earning approximately €450 per week.

He had been made homeless in 2021 and spent some time living in his car which was when he “built up charges” but is now working and renting privately in Palmerstown.

For the first offence, Judge Patricia McNamara gave Amusa a five-month suspended sentence for two years on his own bond of €200 and a €450 fine, to give him an “opportunity to get back on the road.”

On the other matter, Judge McNamara put it back for a community order suitability report for 120 hours in lieu of a five-month sentence and will deal with disqualification and a fine the next day.

This matter was adjourned for finalisation to Tallaght District Court on December 5, 2025.
