Say ‘thank-you’ and nominate your Tallaght Hospital Hero

THE deadline for community nominations for Tallaght University Hospital’s new employee recognition scheme, which celebrates the individuals and teams who go that extra mile to make a real difference to patients and families, is this Wednesday, April 11.
Launched this year, the Tallaght Hospital Heroes scheme will be an annual programme that celebrates hospital staff from every discipline who contribute to the care of patients and support the health facility's ethos of People Caring for People.
There are a number of categories where staff can be nominated and selected by their peers.
However, in recognition of the close relationship with the community, the hospital has also included a separate category for patients to nominate a member of staff that made a real difference during their time in the hospital.
The Community Nominated Award for Patient Experience is open to the entire community and provides members of the public with an opportunity to recognise a staff member who “demonstrated the finer ideals of caring through extraordinary service to a patient or their family – delivering an exceptional patient experience.
On behalf of the community Catherine Heaney, Chair of the Patient Community Advisory Council said: ‘This is a fantastic initiative from the hospital and as a representative of the community I am really looking forward to being involved.
“Particularly in the category for patient nominations, this provides the community with an opportunity to recognise a particular member of staff that went the extra mile during their time in Tallaght University Hospital.
“I hope members of the community will take the few minutes needed to fill in the short form and submit it to the hospital.
“The staff that work in our Hospital make an enormous emotional investment in what they do and I think any opportunity to recognise and highlight some of that work is vitally important.”
Ms Heaney stressed that the nomination can be for anybody, in any department, including canteen staff, a porter, nurse, consultant or receptionist – anybody who made someone’s time at the hospital a little easier or brought comfort through a kind word.
The deadline for nominations is this Wednesday, April 11.
