THE REPUBLIC of Ireland Ladies Senior team face two crucial qualifiers against Slovakia and The Netherlands, in their quest to qualify for the Women’s World Cup in France, reports Sean Heffernan.

Arsenal’s Katie McCabe, who hails from Kilnamanagh will captain the Irish team as they take to the pitch in Tallaght stadium tomorrow, Friday, at 5pm.

Another Arsenal player in the squad is Blessington’s Louise Quinn.

Katie will be hoping to lead her team to a double victory in her hometown against a team they beat previously in the qualifiers, and a highly fancied Netherlands side, whom Ireland earned a memorable draw against the Dutch last October.

Also hoping to make the starting lineup in both games are the Peamount foursome of Claire Walsh, Karen Duggan, Amber Barrett and Aine O’ Gorman.

The Irish ladies currently sit in second place in the qualification table, equal on points with The Netherlands, on seven points each, but The Netherlands have a slightly better goal difference.

Third placed Norway are merely a point behind them both on six points

Thus a win against bottom placed Slovakia, and The Netherlands would be a major boost in their quest to qualify for the World Cup in France, and with things so tight in the group, they really are two must win matches.
