Top marks to girls teams competing in GAA Gaelic football blitz in St Mark’s

KINGSWOOD Community College came out on top, winning the St Mark’s GAA Club Under 16 Interschools Ladies Football Summer Blitz Cup while St Mark’s Community School lifted the shield.

After running a blitz between Kingswood CC, St Mark’s CS, Killinarden Community School and Coláiste de hide last autumn, St Mark’s GAA Club hosted a summer iteration last Thursday, May 18.

From the off, Kingswood CC set out their stall as the team to beat after eeking out a win over contenders Coláiste de hÍde in the first game of the round robin stage.

Emma Lowth (Thomas Davis) was a particular stand out for the Kingswood school alongside teammate Naomi Hatch (St Mark’s GAA), with both maintaining a high work rate throughout.

Follow-up wins over St Mark’s CS and Killinarden CS pushed Kingswood into the decider, where they upheld their unbeaten run to claim the cup with a win over Coláiste de hÍde.

After her valiant efforts across all four games, Kingswood CC’s Aimée Noonan McKeever (St Mark’s GAA) was named player of the tournament.

Meanwhile, St Mark’s CS, which was managed by Dublin Senior Ladies Footballer Lauren Magee, outshone Killinarden CS to seize the shield title.

Promoting inclusivity and participation, the tournament attracted players from all over with St Mark’s, Thomas Davis, St Kevin’s/Killian’s, St Anne’s, Croí Ro Naofa, St Jude’s, and Blessington GAA clubs represented on the schools’ teams.
