Young Scientist exhibition is a springboard for entrepreneurs

The Best Individual Project award was given to 16-year-old transition year student Shane Curran from Terenure College, who was awarded in the technology category at intermediate level for his project ‘Velodrome: The Automated Logistics Fulfilment Platform’.

Coláiste Phádraig in Lucan showcased its entries, with nine different projects on display through junior, intermediate and senior levels in numerous categories such as chemical, physical and mathematical sciences, technology and social and behavioural sciences.

Lucan Community College also has two students enter a project at junior level in the category of social and behavioural sciences entitled ‘Does screen time before bed affect the quality of sleep for Irish teenagers?’.

Aisling Ní Bhriain from Coláiste Chilliain presented her project at intermediate level in the category of Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

Two students from St Colmcille’s in Knocklyon also had an entry in the exhibition at intermediate level in the category of biological and ecological.

Rim Aboudinar from Loreto College on Crumlin Road presented a project in the category of social and behavioural sciences at senior level.

Speaking about the competition, managing director of BT Ireland Shay Walsh said: “We are proud that the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition continues to act as a springboard for future entrepreneurs, academics, scientists and technologists and we have countless past winners who are proof of that.

“I would like to sincerely congratulate every single student who took part this week and to the thousands of other students who submitted a project but unfortunately didn’t qualify.”
