Appeal after vandalism and fire damage at Tymon Park fairy trail
South Dublin County Council are appealing for information from the public following an incident of vandalism and fire damage to sculptures in Tymon Park’s Fairy Woods Trail last week.
An Garda Síochána are investigating the incident, which resulted in damage to the foot of a large wooden sculpture situated along the trail.
The sculpture is one of nine bespoke wood carvings that are located along the trail, created by Special Branch Carvers, an Irish wood crafting company.
SDCC’s Senior Executive Parks and Landscape Officer, Brendan Redmond, spoke about the Council’s disappointment in the lack of care for a piece of art created for the community, but emphasised the obvious respect from the majority of the public.
“99.9 per cent of people who go in there are absolutely respectful of Tymon Park and its setting and the facilities that South Dublin County Council are providing and creating; it’s just unfortunate that somebody has done that.”

Repaired sculpture
Only days after the incident, the Council, alongside the carvers, worked tirelessly to repair the damage to the sculpture and ensure it is restored to its original state, reflecting SDCC’s commitment to the community.
Brendan Redmond was particularly grateful to Tymon Park’s Depot Staff who “nurture” the park and help to maintain it to such high standards, as well as the Park Rangers who are doing “trojan work” in terms of “being on site, meeting the communities, networking, and building relationships.”
SDCC are calling on anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or who has any information, to come forward and report it to An Garda Síochána at Tallaght Garda Station.
“We ask all park users and visitors to help protect and respect our parks and public amenities so they can continue to be enjoyed by current and future generations.
