Concerns raised over noise and parking at Tymon site

A GROUP of residents living beside the construction site of the new nursing home in Tymon North have expressed concerns over noise and parking issues – with accusations of wolf whistling also made.
Twelve months ago building work started on the 100-bed nursing home, which is being built by the HSE.

Recently, residents staged a street meeting, during which allegations were made that works are some days starting over an hour earlier than the stated time on the planning permission.
There was also criticism over the number of vans and other vehicles associated with the development parking outside residents’ homes, when there is a car park down the road.
Dymphna Murphy, who lives beside the site, said: “I live directly across the road and I’m woken up very early in the morning.
“The starting time is meant to be 8am, and they are starting some mornings at 6:45am.”
No privacy
Also present was James Kelly, who said: “The building is looking right into my back garden and I have no privacy… people can look straight into my bedroom.”
Solidarity Councillor Mick Murphy who was also in attendance agreed to see if it would be possible to place more trees on site, to provide residents living next door more privacy in the long term.
The building close to houses
When asked what happens next, Cllr Murphy said: “The building is half built, and the problems now are around activity to do with the building, with dust, noise, lots of traffic people parking all over the place in particular a major concern.”
Issues were raised with South Dublin County Council, who passed residents’ concerns onto contractor Glenbeigh Construction.
In a letter, seen by The Echo, sent to all staff and subcontractors working on site, the MD of Glenbeigh Construction confirmed that the gates to the site will not open until 7.45am each morning and will close at 6.05pm.
He stated that all deliveries must be scheduled to arrive on site between 8am and 5pm, with sufficient time allowed for off-loading to ensure all delivery vehicles are off-site by 6.05pm.
He added that parking on Tymon North Road and Tymon Grove is “strictly forbidden/prohibited” to anyone connected to construction works.
Wolf whistling accusation
On the accusation of wolf whistling, Mr Donlon said: “The correspondence received makes an accusation that wolf whistling has been directed at women as they walk by the site.
“All parties are acutely aware this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated by Glenbeigh and anyone observed carrying this out will be immediately removed from site.”
