Man fined €5k and disqualified for one month for road traffic charges

A MAN in court for road traffic charges received a one-month disqualification, a suspended sentence and €5,000 in fines.

Ahmet Ramic (26), Brookview Court, Tallaght, appeared before Tallaght District Court, to face charges of driving while disqualified on January 22, 2025 at Killakee Road, and driving in a manner deemed to be dangerous.

The court heard that Ramic was in a Toyota rental car and drove past an unmarked garda car at speed on Ballycullen Road.

Gardai followed the car, lost sight of it due to its speed for about 30 seconds, and when gardai caught up with Ramic, he had been involved in a single vehicle collision on Kilakee Road.

Nobody was injured.

The court heard Ramic has three previous convictions, including two for driving without insurance and one for money laundering.

Defence solicitor Sean Osborne said his client had panicked, immediately put his hands up, was co-operative at all times and aware he was in the wrong.

Ramic was working in the motor industry, has turned a corner in life and losing his licence would affect his employment, said Mr Osborne. Judge Brendan O’Reilly could not ignore the actions of Ramic which led to a collision at speed.

Judge O’Reilly fined him €1,000 for driving without insurance, disqualified him for one month and sentenced him to four months in prison suspended for two years.

Fo the Section 53 offence (dangerous driving), Judge O’Reilly fined Ramic €4,000.
