Run for Rita in Tymon Park this weekend
By Echo Reporter
NOW IN its third year, the Run for Rita will take place in Tymon Park on April 10 with a fun family event in the Kilnamanagh Community Centre afterward.
Organised by Kilnamanagh resident Glenda Curtis in memory of her mother Rita Savage, the 5K family friendly run and walk will raise funds for two special charities and a defibrillator for the community of Kilnamanagh.
Speaking to The Echo about the Run for Rita, Glenda said: “It’s brilliant that the Run for Rita is now in its third year, I always thought that I would do one year and that would be it.
“We’ve been out training every Monday and Wednesday and we’ve had a great turnout. This year’s event is more of a community event, it’s not just for serious runners and walkers.
“This year, we’re raising funds for a defibrillator for Kilnamanagh and then the rest of the money from the Run for Rita will be divided between two charities.
“Love Lexie, which is in aid of a little girl named Lexie from Kilnamanagh and the cochlear implant team at the Beaumount Hospital.
“It will also go toward the treatment and rehabilitation of a little boy named Joshua from Clondalkin, who is battling a rare condition called Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome (OMS).
“As always, there will be an after party in the Kilnamanagh Community Centre. We’ve had over 100 registrations so far, with pre-registration due to take place next week and registration also open on the day.”
Registration for the Run for Rita is €20 for a timed entry, €10 for under 16s and €50 for a family of two adults and up to four children.
Information on how to register for the Run for Rita is available at the Run for Rita Facebook page, with details on next week’s pre-registration event also available on the page.
